Mornington Peninsula Teen Charged After Dog Squad Arrest Ends Alleged Stolen-Car Run

A 17-year-old from the Mornington Peninsula area has been charged after an alleged stolen-car run involving a BMW, a Kia and a Dog Squad arrest in Richmond.

A 17-year-old from the Mornington Peninsula area has been charged after police allege an incident involving a stolen BMW and stolen Kia ended with a Dog Squad arrest in Richmond.

A Mornington Peninsula teenager has been charged after an alleged stolen-car run involving a BMW, a Kia and a Dog Squad arrest in Richmond.

Victoria Police says officers spotted an allegedly stolen grey BMW travelling along Williamson Road in Doncaster about 4pm on 26 June.

Police followed the BMW along Doncaster Road before it continued to Tram Road.

They allege the teenage occupants dumped the BMW in Balwyn North, then took off in a stolen Kia.

Alleged stolen Kia followed across suburbs

Police say officers followed the Kia through Balwyn North before it travelled through Canterbury, Kew and Hawthorn.

The alleged run ended about 4.50pm when the Kia stopped inside an underground car park on Victoria Street, Richmond.

Dog Squad members helped arrest a 17-year-old boy at the scene.

Police allege he was one of the occupants of the Kia.

Teen taken to hospital under police guard

Police say the 17-year-old was bitten by a police dog during the arrest.

He was taken to hospital under police guard with non-life-threatening injuries.

Victoria Police says the boy, from the Mornington Peninsula area, has since been remanded under police guard.

A 15-year-old boy from the Yarra Ranges area was also arrested nearby.

Police say detectives interviewed the 15-year-old before releasing him pending summons.

Charges laid

The Mornington Peninsula teenager has been charged with a string of offences, including:

  • six counts of aggravated burglary
  • five counts of theft of motor vehicle
  • five counts of unlicensed driving
  • burglary
  • theft
  • attempted theft of motor vehicle
  • criminal damage

Police said the matter was due before a court on 28 June.

The allegations remain before the courts.
