A Bittern man has had his licence immediately suspended after allegedly returning a breath test reading more than five times the legal alcohol limit following a two-car collision in Mount Martha.

Victoria Police said officers were called to the intersection of Moorooduc Highway and Males Road just before 5pm on Wednesday, 24 June, after reports of a minor two-car collision.

Police located the driver of a Nissan Navara at the scene.

The 41-year-old man underwent a preliminary breath test, which returned a positive result.

Police said he then returned a positive evidentiary breath test at the roadside, with an alleged reading of 0.269.

The man received an immediate 12-month licence suspension.

Police have charged him on summons with exceeding the prescribed content of alcohol while driving, driving under the influence and careless driving.

His vehicle was also impounded for 30 days, at a cost of $1,304.75.

The charges remain allegations.
