
A Frankston station operation has resulted in 40 arrests in five hours, with police seizing five edged weapons and allegedly locating illicit drugs.
Victoria Police conducted the operation at Frankston Railway Station and surrounding parts of the Frankston CBD on Thursday, 13 August.
Police said the operation targeted antisocial behaviour and alleged drug and weapons offences near public transport hubs and retail areas.
A 50-year-old Mount Martha man was among those arrested and charged with alleged drug trafficking and other offences. He was remanded to appear at Frankston Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 24 August.
Frankston Woman Charged
Police also arrested a 41-year-old Frankston woman after allegedly finding methylamphetamine, 1,4-butanediol and a large knife.
She was charged with two counts of trafficking a drug of dependence, two counts of possessing a drug of dependence and possessing a controlled weapon.
The woman was bailed to appear at Frankston Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 30 October.
Results From the Frankston Station Operation
Officers from Transit South conducted the operation with assistance from Protective Services Officers, the Frankston High Visibility Community Engagement Team and the Dog Squad.
During the five-hour operation, police:
- Made 40 arrests
- Seized five edged weapons
- Issued 16 cannabis cautions
- Located three people wanted on outstanding warrants
- Located two people listed on whereabouts
- Issued seven penalty infringement notices for weapons and transport offences
Authorised officers also checked more than 1,600 public transport tickets and myki cards. More than 40 infringement notices were issued for transport offences.
Police Operations to Continue
Transit Division Acting Sergeant Jo Fabian said similar operations would continue around the public transport network.
“Everyone has the right to be able to travel on our public transport network and not only be safe but feel safe too.”
Victoria Police said the operations aimed to improve safety for commuters, visitors and residents.
