Two teenagers — one from the Mornington Peninsula and the other from the Greater Dandenong area — have been charged following a dramatic four-hour police pursuit involving multiple stolen vehicles across Melbourne’s south-east, ending in Mount Eliza.
Victoria Police allege the incident began around 10pm on Saturday, 18 May, when officers attempted to intercept a stolen Mazda CX-5 on Warrigal Road in Oakleigh. The driver failed to stop, and the vehicle took off at high speed, triggering a pursuit monitored by the Victoria Police Air Wing.
The Mazda was tracked across multiple suburbs, including along the Monash Freeway where it allegedly reached speeds of up to 200 km/h and performed several dangerous U-turns. The car was later dumped, and the occupants are accused of switching into a second stolen vehicle — a Skoda — before continuing their escape.
The chase resumed with the Skoda observed travelling through Noble Park, where one of the teens fled on foot near Heatherton Road and was arrested at a nearby property. The second teen allegedly continued to Mount Eliza, abandoning the vehicle in the Mount Eliza Regional Park before being taken into custody shortly after.
The 16-year-old and 17-year-old have been charged with multiple offences, including theft of a motor vehicle, reckless conduct endangering life, committing an indictable offence while on bail, and unlicensed driving.
Both youths have been remanded to appear before a children’s court at a later date.
Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.

Great to see that they were remanded and not bailed. Now the courts need to sentence them to what the community thinks is appropriate. Time behind bars and disqualification for holding a licence until well past when they turn 18
