Somerville Triumphs Over Red Hill In A Thriller

Somerville secured a four-point victory over Red Hill in a Round 13 thriller, strengthening its position in second place on the MPNFL ladder.

Somerville edged Red Hill by four points in a Round 13 thriller to strengthen its hold on second place on the MPNFL ladder.

In the Round 13 MPNFL fixture, Somerville edged our fellow finals aspirant Red Hill in an absolute nail-biter at Red Hill, 9-12-66 to 9-8-62.

With a finals berth potentially at stake for both teams, key forward Lachie Sharp goaled to bring his team within two points with only a minute remaining on the clock. Running machine Ben Kaddatz iced the contest for the Eagles shortly before the final siren to secure a much-needed victory and second position on the premiership ladder.

A two-point victory against Frankston Bombers in Round 9 and the weekend’s four-point win against Red Hill have given Somerville some breathing space in second position on the ladder. However, Seaford, Red Hill, Pearcedale, Frankston Bombers and Rye are still within striking distance with five rounds to play.

In a major win for Somerville, skyscraping ruckman Tom Roberts made his first appearance for the season after an injury lay-off. It is expected that he will play a pivotal role as he develops match fitness.

Somerville’s best players, as nominated by the club: Ben Kaddatz, Lachie Sharp (four goals), Mason deWit, Oliver Heavey and Max Kleverkamp.

Round 14 sees Somerville travel to Seaford in what shapes as another pivotal contest, particularly in light of the home team recording a convincing win earlier in the season.
