Police intercept driver on Mornington Peninsula Freeway

A 24-year-old woman has been arrested after allegedly driving the wrong way on the Mornington Peninsula Freeway at Rosebud late last night.

According to police, officers from Rosebud were travelling towards Rosebud around 10pm when they spotted a vehicle heading directly towards them in the wrong lane. The driver then performed a U-turn on the freeway before being intercepted by police.

Licence suspended and vehicle impounded

Police conducted a breath test, with the woman allegedly returning a blood alcohol concentration of 0.165 — more than four times the legal limit.

Her licence was immediately suspended, and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days. She is expected to appear before the Magistrates’ Court at a later date and faces a likely lengthy disqualification from driving.

Authorities say it was fortunate the driver did not collide with other vehicles during the incident.
