Police are seeking public assistance after a man was allegedly punched in the jaw while waiting for an Uber in Frankston.
Investigators are looking into the circumstances surrounding an incident in the Frankston CBD in the early hours of Saturday 16 May.
Police say an unknown man approached the victim about 1.13am at a local hotel on Nepean Highway, where he struck up a conversation. During the exchange, the man allegedly asked the victim whether he had ever been in a fight.
A short time later, the victim left the hotel and was allegedly followed by the man.
Police say the victim crossed the road with friends while trying to enter another venue, but noticed the same man had followed them. Concerned by the situation, the victim began walking east along Davey Street and ordered an Uber.
While the group was waiting for their ride, the man allegedly approached the victim and his friends and tried to intimidate them.
Police say the man then punched the victim, connecting with his jaw, before fleeing on foot.
Investigators believe the man remained in the Frankston CBD for about another three hours after the alleged assault.
Police have released an image of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.
