Public transport fares have been cut in half across Victoria from today, giving Frankston, Mornington Peninsula and wider Victorian commuters cheaper travel until the end of the year.

The statewide fare cut started on Monday 1 June 2026 and will run until 1 January 2027.

Under the temporary discount, the maximum full-fare daily travel cost drops from $11.40 to $5.70, while concession daily fares fall from $5.70 to $2.85.

The change applies to trains, trams, buses, regional trains, coaches and regional buses, including intertown and regional town bus services.

For local passengers, that means cheaper travel on services including the Frankston Line, Stony Point Line and local bus routes across Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula.

Passengers Still Need To Tap On

Transport Victoria says passengers do not need to apply for the discount.

Commuters can tap on as normal with their myki, with the fare automatically calculated at half price.

The fare cut also applies to concession holders, including students and seniors, whose already discounted fares will be reduced further during the half-price period.

Early bird travel remains available on metropolitan trains for passengers who tap on and off before 7am.

Children and young people under 18 can continue to travel free with a Youth myki, while seniors can continue to travel free on weekends.

Some Services Excluded

The discount does not apply to SkyBus, ferries or non-subsidised regional bus services.

V/Line bookings and seat reservations also resumed from Monday 1 June at half price.

Passengers who have already booked V/Line travel after 1 June can apply for a partial refund online or visit a staffed station.

Cost-Of-Living Relief

The fare reduction follows a period of free public transport in Victoria, which ended on Sunday 31 May.

The Victorian Government says a regular commuter could save more than $850 between 1 June and 1 January under the half-price fare period.

Passengers on the Frankston and Stony Point lines should still check planned disruption information and journey updates before travelling.
