Frankston MP Paul Edbrooke has been elevated to Victoria’s cabinet as Premier Jacinta Allan reshapes her ministry following the resignations of senior ministers Danny Pearson, Mary-Anne Thomas and Gayle Tierney.
Edbrooke was one of four MPs promoted by the Labor caucus, alongside Michaela Settle, Luba Grigorovitch and Paul Hamer. At the time of writing, the new portfolios had not yet been publicly announced.
He has represented Frankston since 2014, and his promotion places a local voice at the cabinet table during a significant reshuffle of the Allan government.
Frankston MP Elevated To Cabinet
Edbrooke’s elevation is a notable development for Frankston, with the local MP moving into cabinet as the state government resets its frontbench.
The announcement comes at a time when infrastructure, health, transport and cost-of-living pressures remain key issues across Frankston and surrounding communities.
His promotion is also likely to draw strong local interest, particularly as attention now turns to which ministerial portfolio he will receive.
Kris Bolam Welcomes Promotion
Current Frankston councillor and former three-time mayor Kris Bolam welcomed the announcement and said Edbrooke’s elevation reflected both his work ethic and the strength of his contribution to the city.
I wish to extend my warmest congratulations to Paul Edbrooke MP on his well-deserved elevation to State Cabinet.
When we first began working together in 2021, the relationship between his office and the Council had been notably fractured. I am incredibly proud that we were able to find common ground and forge a durable partnership focused on advancing Frankston through turbulent times, from the height of the pandemic to the current cost-of-living crisis.
The value of that partnership is visible across the Frankston landscape today. Having worked closely with Paul through these immense challenges, I can attest to a tireless work ethic that has delivered “city-building” excellence, from the Peninsula University Hospital and Railway Station revitalisation to our two major stadiums, the Frankston Commuter Car Park, and several new community and sporting facilities.
These achievements are the stuff of legacies. With record municipal funding secured and a key ally now sitting in Cabinet, marking the first time in 44 years that a Frankston MP has served in the Victorian Cabinet, our city’s future is brighter than ever. I have no doubt Paul will excel as a Minister while continuing to keep our community’s interests at the very front of his mind.
Focus Turns To Portfolio Announcement
Bolam’s statement positions the appointment as a significant moment for Frankston, while also pointing to a longer-term local significance through his reference to the city’s representation in cabinet.
With Edbrooke now elevated, the next question is what portfolio he will be handed and what that role could mean for Frankston as the Allan government moves forward with its reshaped ministry.
