Two men have been charged and a woman released pending further inquiries after police allegedly uncovered a 3D-printed firearm, stolen vehicle keys and a stash of illicit drugs during a late-night arrest in Frankston.
The incident unfolded around 1.15am on Tuesday when officers from Frankston Crime Investigation Unit were alerted to three people reportedly loitering near a grey Hyundai i30 with cloned plates in a Frankston carpark.
Police allege the group entered a white Renault Koleos and drove off along the Nepean Highway before the vehicle was located soon after, parked outside a hotel.
Officers from Operation Trinity moved in when a man and woman returned to the Koleos. A search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered keys to the Hyundai, which had earlier raised suspicion.
The pair were arrested at the scene, and a subsequent search of a hotel room allegedly revealed a 3D-printed firearm, quantities of methamphetamine, MDMA, and 1-4-butanediol—a substance commonly used as a recreational drug with sedative effects. A third person, a 33-year-old man, was also arrested during the hotel search.
Police say the man, from Safety Beach, was subject to a firearms prohibition order at the time. He has been charged with:
- Prohibited person possess firearm
- Person subject to firearm prohibition order possess firearm
- Trafficking a drug of dependence
- Theft of a motor vehicle
- Possession of a controlled weapon
He was remanded to appear before Frankston Magistrates’ Court today.
A 22-year-old man from Frankston has also been charged with:
- Prohibited person possess firearm
- Trafficking a drug of dependence
- Theft of a motor vehicle
- Deal property suspected of being proceeds of crime
- Contravene conduct condition of bail
He too is scheduled to appear at Frankston Magistrates’ Court today.
A 25-year-old woman, also from Frankston, was released pending further inquiries.
Operation Trinity is part of Victoria Police’s ongoing efforts to target high-risk offending and reduce serious crime across the region.
