A stolen Holden Commodore ute allegedly reached speeds of up to 200km/h, travelled on the wrong side of the road and continued driving on three wheel rims before police arrested a 31-year-old Seaford man.
The dramatic overnight incident unfolded across Melbourne’s south-east early Friday morning, 9 October, after officers attempted to intercept the stolen vehicle in Chadstone.
Victoria Police said Operation Trinity officers first spotted the Holden Commodore displaying false registration plates on Huntingdale Road about 12.50am.
Officers attempted to intercept the vehicle when it stopped on Robert Street, but the driver allegedly accelerated away.
Police deployed stop sticks, successfully deflating the ute’s tyres.
Stolen Ute Allegedly Reaches 200km/h
Despite the damaged tyres, the driver allegedly continued through Glen Waverley, Mount Waverley, Monash, Mulgrave, Rowville and Wheelers Hill.
Police allege the vehicle reached speeds of up to 200km/h and travelled on the wrong side of the road at times.
The ute continued for an extensive distance on three wheel rims before eventually coming to a stop on Nullawil Street in Springvale.
The driver then allegedly fled on foot, jumping fences before police arrested him at a property on Charleston Street.
Seaford Man Arrested, Stolen Vehicle Recovered
Police confirmed the 31-year-old Seaford man remained in custody awaiting an interview when the statement was released.
Officers also seized a backpack found nearby containing housebreaking implements and an on-board diagnostics device.
The Holden Commodore had been stolen from Prahran on 5 October, four days before the incident.
No charges had been announced at the time of the initial police statement.
The arrest was made as part of Operation Trinity, Victoria Police’s overnight operation targeting burglaries and vehicle thefts across Melbourne.
