Three teenagers have been charged over the Langwarrin stabbing that left a 41-year-old man with life-threatening injuries after he allegedly confronted a group trying to break into a vehicle outside a Govan Street property.
Victoria Police confirmed on Sunday that two 16-year-old boys from the Casey area and a 17-year-old boy from the Frankston area had been charged following the violent incident early Saturday morning.
Police allege a group of teenagers was attempting to break into a vehicle outside the property about 12.20am on Saturday, 26 September, when the Langwarrin man confronted them.
Investigators allege a confrontation followed and the 41-year-old was stabbed before the group fled the scene.
The man was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Victoria Police confirmed on Sunday that he remained in hospital in a stable condition.
ABC News reported that Ambulance Victoria paramedics treated the man for upper-body injuries before he was transported to The Alfred.
Three Teenagers Charged Over Langwarrin Stabbing
Police arrested two 16-year-old boys several hours after the stabbing, with a third teenager arrested later on Saturday.
All three have now been charged with intentionally causing serious injury in circumstances of gross violence and intentionally causing serious injury.
The teenagers were remanded to appear before a Children’s Court on Sunday, according to Victoria Police.
The accused cannot be identified because of their age.
The charge of intentionally causing serious injury in circumstances of gross violence is classified as a designated Category A serious youth offence under Victorian sentencing laws.
According to the Victorian Sentencing Advisory Council, designated Category A offences committed by children aged 15 or older are subject to provisions requiring the matter to be dealt with in the higher courts unless exceptional circumstances apply.
The charges remain allegations and have not been proven.
Police Response After Govan Street Incident
Police descended on Govan Street, Langwarrin, following the stabbing, with multiple police and ambulance crews attending the residential area.
ABC News reported that CCTV footage from a nearby property assisted police after one of the teenagers was allegedly captured moving through a resident’s backyard following the incident.
Residents told the ABC the normally quiet street was family-friendly and close-knit, with the heavy emergency response leaving neighbours shocked.
The arrests began about four hours after the alleged stabbing.
Victoria Police confirmed two boys were taken into custody in the hours following the incident, before detectives arrested the third teenager later that evening.
The investigation is being handled by Frankston Crime Investigation Unit detectives.
