The Mornington Peninsula township of Somerville loves its sport and this week showcased two achievements which have reinforced this status.
Somerville can proudly boast the sporting achievements of stars including Shaun Graf, Michael Hibberd, Bianca Chatfield, Vlad Duric, Lachlan Young and others.
Hayden Young
In the AFL Preliminary Final v Sydney at the MCG, former Somerville Junior Football Club player Hayden Young led his Fremantle team to a pulsating victory over Sydney to progress to the Grand Final this Saturday against Brisbane.
A sublime talent, Hayden turned the game on its head with a magnificent set shot for goal after the three-quarter-time siren. The rest is history, as Fremantle sealed victory with a crushing last quarter.
Hayden was judged by many to be best on ground, with 28 possessions, 7 tackles and a goal.

Marlee Black
Dandenong Stingrays captain and Somerville FNC junior Marlee Black led her team to victory in their first-ever Talent League premiership yesterday.
Marlee, eldest daughter of Somerville sporting icons Craig and Kasey Black, has always shown elite leadership traits, with a multisport background in football, cricket and netball.
Marlee’s team secured a 30-point Grand Final victory over Oakleigh Chargers at Whitten Oval.
With incredible symmetry, Dad Craig coached the Dandenong Stingrays under-18 Talent League team to the 2018 premiership. A member of that team was Hayden Young.
Somerville has a lot to be proud of, including the outstanding junior talent pathways offered at the Somerville clubs.
