Councillors Decide, Not the Public
Every November, councillors in Frankston City Council and Mornington Peninsula Shire Council meet to elect the Mayor and Deputy Mayor. It’s not a public vote — under Victoria’s local government framework, councillors choose from among themselves, usually by show of hands or secret ballot.
For the 2025–26 term:
- Mornington Peninsula Shire Council: Tuesday, 18 November 2025
- Frankston City Council: Wednesday, 19 November 2025
The outcome determines who represents the community, chairs meetings, and works alongside the CEO to guide the council’s priorities for the year ahead.
