Fire Rescue Victoria issued a VicEmergency Advice message for Frankston at 8.38pm on Sunday 13 September, confirming a building fire at the Frankston Beach foreshore.
The warning said smoke would be visible from nearby roads and communities. However, authorities said there was no threat to the community.
Residents were advised to keep roads clear for emergency services, while people sensitive to smoke were encouraged to close windows and doors.
The VicEmergency message was updated at 8.50pm, with emergency services expected to remain in the area and traffic potentially affected.
Frankston Visitor Information Centre Fire Confirmed By Council
Frankston City Council confirmed on Tuesday that the fire occurred at the Frankston Visitor Information Centre on Pier Promenade.
Council said emergency services responded and brought the fire under control.
No injuries were reported.
The building has since been secured and an investigation into the fire is underway.
Council has asked members of the public to avoid the immediate area and follow directional signage while the site remains secured.
Public Facilities Affected After Frankston Fire
Public toilets near the affected building have been temporarily closed following the fire.
Alternative public toilet facilities remain available elsewhere along Pier Promenade.
Council thanked Victoria Police, Frankston Fire Brigade and Fire Rescue Victoria for their response to the incident.
