
New Zealand actor Sir Sam Neill, best known for playing palaeontologist Dr Alan Grant in Jurassic Park, has died aged 78.
Neill died suddenly in Sydney on Monday, 13 July, according to a statement released by his family. The family said his death was unexpected and confirmed he had remained cancer-free following treatment for blood cancer.
His career spanned more than five decades and included roles in The Piano, Peaky Blinders, Dead Calm and the New Zealand comedy-drama Hunt for the Wilderpeople.
Neill became known to generations of filmgoers through the Jurassic Park franchise, leaving behind a significant legacy across Australian, New Zealand and international cinema.
