Three men from Frankston and Seaford have been charged after an allegedly stolen Toyota LandCruiser Prado was tracked across Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs and struck barriers at a roadworks site early Friday morning. The incident began about 1.40am on Friday, 30 October, when Victoria Police spotted the vehicle travelling at speed on Beach Road, near Charman Road in Beaumaris.

Allegedly stolen Prado tracked through Melbourne’s south-east

With assistance from the Police Air Wing, officers tracked the Prado through Parkdale and Dandenong. Police allege the vehicle then travelled on the wrong side of the South Gippsland Highway at speeds of up to 170km/h. Near the intersection with Fisheries Road, the Prado struck water barriers and cyclone fencing being used to close the highway for roadworks. According to police, the occupants appeared unaware of the closure while travelling against the normal flow of traffic. The vehicle continued for a short distance before those inside allegedly abandoned it and fled on foot. Uniformed officers, supported by the Police Air Wing and Dog Squad, arrested four people following the incident.

Frankston and Seaford men charged

A 23-year-old Frankston man, a 24-year-old Frankston man and a 25-year-old Seaford man have been charged with theft of a motor vehicle. All three were granted bail and are due to appear at Frankston Magistrates’ Court on 5 March. A fourth person, a 23-year-old Elwood man, remains in hospital under police guard. Victoria Police said he was expected to be charged at a later date. Investigators believe the Toyota LandCruiser was stolen from Glen Iris on 25 October, five days before the incident.
