Mornington Peninsula Shire residents can once again take advantage of a cost-saving opportunity to tidy up their gardens, with the Shire’s popular ‘No Charge’ Green Waste event returning from Friday 8 August to Sunday 10 August 2025.
The event allows local residents and ratepayers to dispose of garden clippings, branches, weeds and untreated timber at no cost. The initiative is designed to help the community keep properties neat, reduce fire hazards and support responsible green waste disposal.
Residents can drop off their green waste at any of the Shire’s three Resource Recovery Centres:
- Rye: Truemans Road
- Tyabb: McKirdys Road
- Mornington: Watt Road
Opening hours during the event are slightly extended to cater for demand, with centres open Friday from 8am to 4pm and Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 5pm.
Proof of residency required
The ‘No Charge’ Green Waste event is only available to Mornington Peninsula Shire residents and ratepayers. Proof of residency, such as a driver’s licence or rates notice, must be presented on arrival.
Key guidelines include:
- Only residential vehicles and trailers are permitted. No commercial vehicles or commercial green waste will be accepted.
- A maximum of three cubic metres of green waste per trip will be accepted at the Mornington facility.
- Green waste includes all garden waste and untreated timber.
Given the popularity of these weekends, residents are encouraged to plan ahead and expect possible delays, particularly during peak periods in the mornings and late afternoons.
Ongoing green waste options
For those who regularly need to dispose of garden waste, the Shire offers a 240-litre fortnightly green and food waste bin collection service for properties in the urban area.
