A Mount Martha resident has been fined $6,271.67 after dumping waste — including two washing machines and a tumble dryer — in rural areas of Tuerong and Moorooduc.
The appliances, still wrapped in Mornington Peninsula Shire tape after being tagged for removal outside the man’s home, were later discovered discarded along Tuerong Road.
According to a report by RPP FM, covert CCTV subsequently captured the man illegally dumping waste again. He was later prosecuted in the Dromana Magistrates’ Court, where he was found guilty on four charges.
The Magistrate found the man guilty with conviction and he was fined an aggregate of $1,500, on all charges, and ordered to pay costs of $4,771.67, a combined total of $6271.67.
Mornington Peninsula Shire said much of the material could have been recycled free of charge and is reminding residents that illegal dumping is both harmful and avoidable.
The Shire is urging locals to report dumpers via the ‘Dob in a Dumper’ form available on the Mornington Peninsula Shire website.
