Somerville Subdues Bonbeach

From The Somerville Swooper

Coming off a demoralising one-point defeat to Crib Point last week, Somerville showed enormous resolve and commitment to overcome Bonbeach in the Round 7 MPNFL fixture at Bonbeach.

In a dour, scrappy affair, both teams squandered opportunities to seize the ascendancy. At half time, Bonbeach held a 15-point lead and, frustratingly for all concerned, the inaccuracy continued into the third quarter with the scores standing at 4.10.34 to Somerville 2.14.26.

In a character-building final term, Somerville rallied to the cause and critical goals to Jai Triep, Jack Moroney and Ben Neilson provided the momentum to ice the contest.

This was a hard-fought and courageous win by Somerville and without doubt, goal kicking will be a priority on the training track during the week. With match scores of 10.18 v Karingal, 10.14 v Pearcedale, 6.16 v Chelsea, 8.14 v Rye and 5.17 v Bonbeach, strong field play has been compromised by failing to convert over the duration of the season.
