Is the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council Under Investigation?

STPL News has received reports that the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council may be under investigation by the Local Government Inspectorate.

STPL News has received multiple reports from within the Mornington Peninsula Shire suggesting that the Local Government Inspectorate may be conducting an investigation into the operations of the Shire Council.

The reports, which came from several unrelated sources with links to the organisation, have prompted questions about the potential nature and scope of such an inquiry. However, no official confirmation has yet been provided by either the Shire or the Inspectorate.

In an effort to clarify the situation, STPL News contacted a number of current councillors and staff members. Responses were mixed. While some stated they had no knowledge of any investigation, several welcomed the idea, hinting at internal concerns that, in their view, would warrant external scrutiny.

“I’m not aware of an investigation, but I’d be relieved if there was one,” said one source.

There are certainly things that need looking into,” said another.

Another source expressed uncertainty but noted, “I hope so! They should investigate the whole MP”

The Local Government Inspectorate is the leading integrity agency for local councils in Victoria and has the authority to investigate breaches of the Local Government Act, misuse of position, and serious governance issues. However, it typically does not make public comment unless a matter proceeds to a formal outcome or public report.

When contacted by STPL News, the Local Government Inspectorate was asked whether it could provide insight into the nature of the investigation. However, the agency responded that it would not be sharing any further information.

“Local Government Inspectorate treats its investigations with the strictest of confidence and therefore will not be sharing information”

STPL News will continue to monitor developments and seek further clarification as new information becomes available.

If you have any information about the investigation, please email contact@stplnews.com.au.

  1. I have been in business for over 60 years and I have never come across a more corrupt and incompetent organisation . We need an open investigation to finally allow this behavior to be aired and action taken It has cost lives both in the way of deaths and destroyed lives . Enough is enough. This behavior has been allowed to continue with some elements of the so called free press acting against the principle of a democratic press in its bias towards hiding the incompetence and corruption . YOUR FIRED could be the solution .Certainly time for an inquiry
