Three men described by police as being from Frankston are among five charged after an investigation into a string of alleged break-ins and attempted home invasions across Melbourne’s south and south-east, Victoria Police said.

Police said Southern Metro Region Crime Squad detectives have been investigating incidents alleged to have occurred between 23 February and 2 March, with two further charges announced on Thursday 5 March.

What police allege happened

Police allege a group tried to get into a home on Honeyeater Way in Pakenham at about 4.00am on Sunday 23 February. A resident reportedly saw multiple people outside carrying machetes and baseball bats, and police allege one person also had a firearm.

Police say the group did not gain entry and fled.

About 20 minutes later, police allege intruders entered a home on Astley Way in Lynbrook, but fled after being disturbed by the occupants and their dogs. Investigators say the group left in a black Audi and a white Mitsubishi ASX.

Police allege the Audi was stolen from Waterways and the Mitsubishi from Preston during February.

Detectives also allege the incidents are linked to an aggravated burglary at a property on Salamanca Drive in Clyde North later that day, where a wallet was allegedly stolen before offenders fled when a resident returned home. Police said there were no injuries.

Who has been charged

Police said three men were arrested at an Endeavour Hills address on Monday night and charged.

Police also said two additional 18-year-olds were arrested in Endeavour Hills on Wednesday and charged, including an 18-year-old Frankston man and an 18-year-old Endeavour Hills man.

Police said the two men arrested on Wednesday were remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 5 March.

Court status

All allegations remain before the courts.
