Somerville Woman’s Maccas Trip Costs Her Wheels After Drink-Driving Arrest

A fast-food run turned costly for a Somerville woman after she allegedly blew three times over the limit at a Mornington drive-thru. Her vehicle was impounded and she faces drink-driving charges.

A Somerville woman’s late-night fast-food run has ended in the impound yard after she was allegedly caught driving more than three times over the legal alcohol limit at a Mornington drive-thru.

Police were called to a Nepean Highway fast-food outlet around 11.45pm on Saturday, 26 April, following reports of erratic driving through the restaurant’s drive-thru lane.

Officers administered a preliminary breath test to the 56-year-old woman, which returned a positive reading. She was taken to a nearby police station for an evidentiary breath test, where she allegedly recorded a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.149 — nearly three times the legal limit of 0.05.

The woman’s vehicle was towed from the Mornington McDonald’s car park.

The woman’s vehicle was immediately impounded, and she is expected to be charged on summons with drink-driving offences.

The incident occurred during Operation Compass, a statewide Victoria Police road safety campaign targeting impaired driving across the Easter and Anzac Day holiday period.

Police have urged motorists to plan ahead and make responsible choices, reminding the community that getting behind the wheel after drinking can carry costly — and potentially tragic — consequences.
