Mornington Peninsula police detected several drink and drug drivers during a long weekend road safety operation targeting dangerous driving.
The operation formed part of Victoria Police’s statewide Operation ARID, which ran from 12.01am on Friday 6 March until 11.59pm on Monday 9 March.
Police conducted more than 1,800 roadside breath and drug tests across the peninsula during the operation.
Ten motorists were detected driving while impaired, including five drivers over the legal alcohol limit and five drivers testing positive for drugs.
Victoria Police say the long weekend enforcement effort focuses on reducing road trauma by targeting high-risk behaviours such as speeding and driving under the influence.
Police note that March is historically one of the worst months for road collisions, particularly during long weekends.
Motorists are being reminded to plan ahead if they intend to drink and ensure they have a safe way home.
Anyone who witnesses erratic or dangerous driving is urged to safely pull over and call 000 to report it.
