A teenage boy has been winched to safety after falling from a cliff at Diamond Bay in Sorrento, as reported by the ABC. Emergency services treated him on the rocks before he was flown to hospital with non life threatening injuries, prompting renewed warnings about cliff and coastal safety.

A teenage boy was rescued after falling from a cliff at Diamond Bay in Sorrento earlier this week on Tuesday 23 December, as reported by the ABC.

Emergency services were called to the coastal reserve off Abbotsford Street just after 10 am, where the boy was located on rocks below the clifftop with lower leg injuries. Police, paramedics, CFA and SES crews responded, along with specialist high-angle rescue teams and an Air Ambulance helicopter.

Rescuers treated the teen on the rocks before winching him to the top of the cliff. He was then flown to hospital for further medical care. His injuries were reported as non life threatening.

Location and safety advice

The incident occurred near the Bay of Islands lookout in Mornington Peninsula National Park, an area where visitors are advised to stay on signed tracks due to erosion and unstable edges.

Authorities have not released further details about how the fall took place. Visitors to coastal cliff areas are urged to follow established paths, observe safety signage and contact Triple Zero (000) in an emergency.
