RPP FM reports that the Frankston Metropolitan Activity Centre (FMAC) Structure Plan has been formally implemented into the Frankston Planning Scheme, following an amendment by Victorian Planning Minister Sonia Kilkenny.
The announcement was made in a statement by Mayor Bolam, who welcomed the decision, stating that the amendment provides planning controls to support the growth and transformation of the CBD and surrounding areas, while also protecting the city’s look and feel.
Mayor Bolam said the structure plan offers greater planning certainty and clarity for future investment, especially as the population is expected to increase by 20,000 people over the next 15 years, requiring up to 9,000 new homes.
He also noted unprecedented interest in local investment, highlighting recent proposals in healthcare, transport and education, as well as a $91 million major development application submitted in recent days.
