Victoria Police Launches Operation SummerSafe+ for Summer Safety

Victoria Police has officially launched Operation SummerSafe+, a proactive initiative to enhance community safety along Melbourne’s foreshores, beaches, and parks. Running until March 2025, the operation includes increased patrols on foot, horseback, in vehicles, and on watercraft. In certain areas, officers will have additional powers to search for concealed weapons under the Control of Weapons Act.

Assistant Commissioner Tim Hansen highlighted the initiative’s goals, saying,

“SummerSafe+ is about maintaining public safety and ensuring everyone enjoys their time in these beautiful locations.”

Mobile police units and CCTV will be deployed to monitor popular areas, with efforts also focusing on preventing anti-social behaviour and crime. Jet ski patrols will target riders who endanger swimmers or breach restricted zones near the shore.

“Police will have a strong, visible presence to prevent incidents before they occur,” Hansen added.

This state-wide operation aims to ensure that Victoria’s iconic summer destinations remain safe and enjoyable for all.
