Works to expand the Kananook Train Stabling Yard near Seaford have been completed, with the Victorian Government saying the upgrade will improve the efficiency and reliability of services along the Frankston Line.
The upgraded facility, part of the ongoing Level Crossing Removal Project, now accommodates additional trains and includes new maintenance and cleaning areas designed to streamline daily operations.
A Key Link in the Frankston Line Network
Transport authorities say locating more stabling capacity near the start of the line helps reduce turnaround times and provides more flexibility during service disruptions.
The site also features improved staff amenities and access points connecting directly to the main line.
A test of the new X’Trapolis 2.0 trains — the next generation of suburban rolling stock — has already taken place at Kananook. The trains are expected to enter service in the coming years, offering upgraded passenger information systems, improved comfort and modernised safety features.
Future of the Frankston Line
According to the Level Crossing Removal Project, the Kananook upgrade forms part of the state’s plan to remove all level crossings along the Frankston Line by 2029.
Once complete, the project team says it will improve safety, reduce congestion and allow more frequent services across the network.
