A routine drive along the Monash Freeway turned into a heart-stopping ordeal for a woman on Saturday when she discovered a tiger snake slithering inside her car.
Police were called to the Toorak Road exit around 10:40 am to conduct a welfare check on a woman who was reported to be acting erratically. When officers arrived, they found the shaken driver, who shared her terrifying story.
While travelling at 80km/h, she felt something unusual on her foot. A quick glance revealed a tiger snake – the world’s fourth most venomous snakes – climbing up her leg. Somehow, she managed to knock the snake away, steer through traffic, and pull over to safety before jumping out of her car.
Paramedics called by the police checked the woman for snake bites to ensure that she was not bitten while police stayed nearby to assist. Tim from Melbourne Snake Control was called to handle the situation. He safely removed the snake from the car, leaving onlookers in disbelief as the reptile was carried away.
This close encounter is a stark reminder that with warmer weather comes increased snake activity. Whether you’re out hiking, working in the garden, or simply driving, it pays to stay alert. If you come across a snake, don’t panic—call a licensed snake catcher to handle it safely.
Spring is here, and so are the snakes—be prepared for the unexpected!
