Somerville Football Netball Club showed enormous resolve and character to overcome Bonbeach in Round 14 of the MPNFL at home.
With finals hopes on the line and a howling gale blowing toward the bowling club end, Bonbeach struck early with two quick goals. But Somerville rallied, kicking three impressive goals against the wind to trail by just one point at quarter time. They then stormed ahead to a 27-point lead at the main break.
Bonbeach clawed back slightly in the third, but with a 15-point lead and the wind in their favour, Somerville held strong to record a gritty 14-point victory.
Coach Chris Gamble’s game plan was executed to perfection in a complete team performance. The win sees Somerville jump into sixth position on the ladder—level on points with Devon Meadows and just one game behind Crib Point.
