With colder weather setting in, the Southern Peninsula Community Support Centre is preparing for a seasonal increase in demand for assistance.
RPP FM reports, the centre’s CEO, Jeremy Maxwell, advised that calls for support are expected to rise over the coming months. He acknowledged the frequency of upcoming appeals and stated they were necessary to meet current and projected needs.
Mr Maxwell reported that the Centre is experiencing higher demand than at any time in its history. He noted that while the scale of support required has grown, so too has the level of community response.
Government funding accounts for approximately 40 per cent of the Centre’s operating budget. The remainder is sourced from community donations. Mr Maxwell said there is ongoing uncertainty regarding the level and consistency of financial support received from local, state, and federal governments.
The organisation continues its advocacy efforts with government representatives, aiming to highlight the experiences of people accessing support services and the broader needs of the community.
