Southern Peninsula Community Support Centre Needs Urgent Help After Fresh Food Deliveries Cancelled

Due to cancelled deliveries from SecondBite and OzHarvest, SPCSC is facing a fresh food shortage. They need urgent donations of vegetables and financial contributions to support local families. Here's how you can help.

Rosebud, Victoria – The Southern Peninsula Community Support Centre (SPCSC) is asking for the community’s help after unexpected cancellations from SecondBite and OzHarvest left them without fresh food deliveries this week. This means the centre can’t provide the usual 150-170 fresh food bags that many local families rely on.

Why Is There a Fresh Food Shortage?

SPCSC confirmed that OzHarvest is unable to deliver on Thursday due to an all-staff training day. However, late on Friday, SecondBite informed them that their truck wouldn’t be available for the scheduled Monday delivery. This is the second missed Monday in a row, after last week’s public holiday also disrupted supply.

“Bad news folks, SecondBite can’t deliver tomorrow, and OzHarvest can’t deliver Thursday either, so we will have no fresh food all week,”

SPCSC said in a public update.

“While we try to always top up gaps in supply, we don’t have the resources to cover the entire week’s supply – which is something like 150-170 bags of fresh food. We are working on a solution but we apologise in advance that things will be extremely tight this week.”

How You Can Help

SPCSC is asking for fresh food donations or financial contributions to help buy supplies. They are particularly in need of:

  • Vegetables – potatoes, carrots, zucchinis, pumpkins, celery, broccoli, and cauliflower.
  • Any extra fresh produce that people may be able to spare.
  • Financial donations – if you’d like to help but don’t have food to donate, SPCSC can buy supplies on your behalf. Just note “Fresh Food” when making a contribution.

“People can make a donation and say it’s for fresh food, and we will use that to buy as much as we can,” an SPCSC spokesperson said.

Where to Donate

  • Drop-off Location: SPCSC, 878 Pt Nepean Rd, Rosebud
  • Online Donations: spcsic.org
  • Contact: (03) 5986 1285

With so many local families depending on these food parcels, every bit of support makes a difference. If you can help, please consider donating food or funds to ensure no one in our community goes without this week.
