Coming off victories against Mt Eliza and Mornington, as well as an unlucky washout against Seaford when in a dominant position, Somerville Cricket Club maintained its form with a strong win against a gallant Seaford Tigers in the Round 7 fixture.

Somerville opening bat Luke Rowe smacked a glorious 112

Batting first, Eagles openers Kiefer Peries and Luke Rowe dominated the Tigers’ attack with a partnership of 175. In a powerhouse performance, Rowe demonstrated his immense talent and brought up a well-deserved century with a straight six.

Jack Barbour (29), Brad McDonald (33), and Isaac Harrison (32) maintained the momentum and swelled the total to 4/296.

With an adventurous declaration, skipper Peries asked the Tigers to bat for 15 overs on Day 1, and they responded positively, ending on 1/57.

On Day 2, Somerville’s young guns, Ryan McNamara (6/56 off 26 overs) and 18-year-old Caleb Debnam (4/46 off 16 overs), combined superbly to knock over the opposition for 201.

Ryan McNamara dazzled with figures of 6/56

McNamara is, in this scribe’s view, the equal of any bowler in the competition, and Debnam has worked on his game with coach Jugga Nagel and is reaping the rewards.

For the Seaford Tigers, opener Tim Hayes produced a quickfire 62, while Luke Chevalier added 48.

In other news at The Nest, Santa is coming after the final game before the break on December 21. It’s always a full house, with families and kids enjoying the event.

And watch out for this one: on February 8, Somerville takes on Mt Eliza for the Phil Graf/Doug Neal Cup. The club is also celebrating four premierships, with players, families, and supporters from the 1974-75 firsts and seconds teams, the 2004-05 fifths team, and the 2014-15 firsts team returning to attend what will be a massive day for the club.

Everyone is welcome to attend on the day. 🦅
