South East Water has confirmed a sewer spill at Sunnyside Beach, Mount Eliza, following the failure of a sewer pipe. The spill resulted in an overflow onto the beach, prompting immediate action from a South East Water response crew.
Water quality testing was conducted as part of efforts to contain the spill and reduce potential environmental impacts. South East Water has advised the public to avoid using or handling water at Sunnyside Beach, including keeping animals away from the affected area, until further notice.
Precautionary signage has been installed at the site, and the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has been notified of the incident. The response team will continue to monitor the area to ensure safety and environmental integrity.
Further updates will be provided once water quality testing is complete.
