Frankston City Council has announced two new investments aimed at strengthening local safety and wellbeing, partnering with Victoria Police and community volunteers as part of its $1.7 million local support package.
Support for Blue Ribbon Foundation
Council has provided $20,000 to the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation – Peninsula Branch, funding health and safety projects that honour fallen officers while supporting vital hospital services.
The funds will go towards the purchase of two fetal monitoring ultrasound machines for local hospitals to help reduce stillbirth rates.
Councillor Nathan Butler said the investment reflects Council’s long-standing partnership with police and volunteers to create “a safer and more resilient community.”
“Our police officers and volunteers make an incredible difference in protecting and supporting our community,” Cr Butler said.
“This investment not only honours those who serve but also directly impacts safety and wellbeing for Frankston residents.”
Cr Butler also acknowledged the “immense pressure” facing police across Victoria following the recent deaths of two officers at Porepunkah.
“Our police officers are doing so much more with less and deserve all the credit in the world. Despite immense pressure, they continue to show courage and commitment every day, and our community stands with them.”
Blue Ribbon Foundation Peninsula Branch President Darryl Nation said the Council’s contribution will make a tangible difference.
“The investment from Frankston Council … will be immediately used to purchase one fetal monitoring ultrasound machine for Frankston Hospital, giving mothers and babies extra peace of mind during pregnancy,” Mr Nation said.
Reviving Neighbourhood Watch
Council has also provided $10,000 to re-establish Neighbourhood Watch Frankston, working alongside residents, Victoria Police, and Neighbourhood Watch Victoria.

Neighbourhood Watch member
Frankston was home to Victoria’s first Neighbourhood Watch group, launched in 1982. The group will continue to hold monthly meetings, support police engagement, and share crime prevention information online.
“Neighbourhood Watch Frankston empowers residents to take practical steps to prevent crime and stay informed,” Cr Butler said. “This partnership helps build safer streets, stronger connections, and a greater sense of community pride.”
Founding member Nick de Kunder said the new funding will help continue a four-decade legacy.
“It’s an honour that Neighbourhood Watch first started right here in Frankston, and that spirit of neighbours looking out for neighbours still runs strong today,” he said.
“With Council’s backing, we’re able to expand our education and outreach programs and help make Frankston one of the safest and most connected cities in Victoria.”
