Peninsula Locals Honoured in 2025 Australia Day Awards

A number of peninsula local residents have been recognised for their outstanding contributions to the community in the 2025 Australia Day Honours list. These prestigious awards celebrate individuals who have demonstrated dedication, service, and leadership across various fields.

Member of the Order of Australia (AM)

  • Dr Kym Jenkins, Sorrento: Dr Jenkins has been honoured for her significant service to psychiatry as a clinician, academic, and in executive roles. Her work has had a profound impact on mental health care both locally and nationally.

Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM)

Seven local individuals received the Medal of the Order of Australia for their exceptional service to their communities:

  • Mr Wayne John Hinton, Mornington: A stalwart of Australian rules football, Mr Hinton has been acknowledged for his service as an umpire, contributing to the development and integrity of the sport.
  • Mrs Judith Patricia McKee, Safety Beach: Mrs McKee has been recognised for her extensive community service in Melbourne, reflecting her commitment to improving the lives of others.
  • Ms Deborah Rae Mellett: Honoured for her dedication to the Indigenous community of Victoria, Ms Mellett’s work has promoted cultural awareness and supported Indigenous wellbeing.
  • Dr Colin George Walker, Pearcedale: Dr Walker’s contributions to avian veterinary science and pigeon racing have been celebrated, showcasing his unique and invaluable expertise.
  • Mrs Judith Anne Walsh, Rosebud: A well-known figure in the Mornington Peninsula community, Mrs Walsh’s years of service have left a lasting legacy of goodwill and support for local initiatives.
