Carrum Downs Police have launched Operation Rolling Boulder, targeting illegal dirt bike riding and hoon behaviour in and around the Pines Flora and Fauna Reserve.
Working in collaboration with Parks Victoria and Frankston City Council, police say the joint operation is aimed at curbing reckless and dangerous behaviour that puts both local residents and native wildlife at risk.
As part of the ongoing operation, the public can expect to see an increased police presence, including officers on all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and the use of drones to monitor activity across the reserve and nearby areas.
Police say unregistered dirt bikes and hoon activity have become a growing concern for the community, particularly in public reserves where families and walkers are often present.
“Operation Rolling Boulder is about making our public spaces safer,” said in a post from from the Eyewatch – Frankston Police Service.
“This kind of behaviour not only endangers others but also damages our local environment and threatens native species in protected reserves.”
Community members are encouraged to report illegal activity. If the behaviour is ongoing, police advise calling 000 immediately. For non-urgent reports or to provide information anonymously, contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
The operation will continue over the coming weeks with authorities warning that fines, vehicle impoundments, and other enforcement measures will apply to those caught breaking the law.
