The Mornington Peninsula Shire and Frankston City Councils have elected their new mayors and deputy mayors, setting the stage for a busy term ahead.
Mornington Peninsula Shire: Anthony Marsh Returns as Mayor
Anthony Marsh, who was elected as the Mayor of Mornington Peninsula Shire, expressed his gratitude for the strong community and council support that brought him back to the chambers. Despite initial reluctance to run again, Marsh secured a decisive victory in the Briars Ward election and earned widespread backing for the mayoral position.
Reflecting on his re-election, Marsh stated:
“Election results were just amazing. I think it was pretty humbling to have that much endorsement from the community… I’ve always tried to lead the group as an impartial person, not pushing my own agenda, but making sure the Council can deliver on what it has promised the community. Luckily, I’ve been re-elected to lead this amazing new group of Councillors.”
Marsh highlighted key tasks for the council before the year ends, including finalising the budget, appointing an acting CEO, and confirming a permanent replacement for outgoing CEO John Baker. Baker, who is departing to take on the CEO role at Sunshine Council in Queensland, leaves a significant leadership gap that Marsh aims to address swiftly.
Paul Pingiaro Elected Deputy Mayor of Mornington Peninsula Shire
Paul Pingiaro has been elected as deputy mayor of the Mornington Peninsula Shire following his impressive victory in the Tanti Ward. Pingiaro secured the position with an overwhelming majority, reflecting strong community support. Known for his collaborative approach and dedication to local issues, Pingiaro aims to work closely with Mayor Anthony Marsh and the council to deliver on key promises and support the shire’s growth and development.
Frankston City Council: Kris Bolam Elected Mayor
Frankston City Council also welcomed new leadership, with Kris Bolam unanimously elected as mayor. This marks Bolam’s third term as mayor, having previously served in 2010 and 2020. In his acceptance speech, Bolam emphasised collegiality, budget responsibility, clear communication, and nurturing the next generation of leaders.
Bolam addressed his fellow councillors with a message of collaboration:
“I implore each and every one of you to please don’t waste this amazing opportunity… I truly appreciate the confidence and trust you’ve placed in me tonight to lead our new Council. I won’t let you down.”
Steffie Conroy Elected Deputy Mayor of Frankston City Council
The council also elected Cr Steffie Conroy as deputy mayor in a unanimous decision. Notably, Conroy was honoured just weeks after welcoming her second child. Bolam concluded the meeting with a heartfelt tribute to outgoing mayor Nathan Conroy, recognising his impactful tenure.
Both councils face ambitious agendas, with a focus on fiscal responsibility and effective governance as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
