Councillors Divide 6–5 in Mayoral Vote
Mornington Peninsula Shire Council has reappointed Cr Anthony Marsh as Mayor for the coming term, following a closely contested vote at Tuesday night’s statutory meeting.
Cr Andrea Allen nominated Cr Marsh, while Cr Michael Stephens nominated Cr Max Patton. The six-councillor voting bloc supported Cr Marsh unanimously, resulting in a 6 to 5 outcome.
Cr Marsh will continue as Mayor for another year.
Deputy Mayor Election Mirrors Mayoral Contest
The vote for Deputy Mayor followed the same pattern. Cr Bruce Ranken nominated Cr Paul Pingiaro, while Cr Stephens again nominated Cr Patton. The same bloc of six councillors backed Cr Pingiaro, delivering another 6 to 5 result.
Cr Pingiaro will return as Deputy Mayor.
Persistent Division Shapes Council’s Direction
The 6 to 5 voting pattern continues a long-running divide within Mornington Peninsula Shire Council, with the same bloc maintaining control of key leadership positions for another term. Recent meetings, community feedback, and public commentary have highlighted ongoing concerns regarding governance stability, transparency, and internal cohesion.
The narrow split remains a defining feature of the current council, with the latest leadership votes reinforcing the influence of the bloc and the limited ability of the remaining five councillors to alter decision-making dynamics.
