Mark Stoermer Named New CEO of Mornington Peninsula Shire

The wait is over—Mornington Peninsula Shire has officially named Mark Stoermer as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) following a Special Council Meeting today.

As STPL News predicted, the new CEO has prior experience with a south-eastern council and has already worked with some of the current councillors and our sources have delivered!

Who is Mark Stoermer?

Stoermer isn’t new to local government leadership. He’s currently the Director of Corporate Services at Brimbank City Council and has previously held the same role at Wyndham City Council. His experience also includes time as CEO of Douglas Shire and Nillumbik Shire Councils, giving him a strong understanding of what it takes to manage a council effectively.

But his expertise goes beyond council offices. Stoermer has held senior roles in financial services and business, including stints at Fordham Business Advisors, Moore Stephens Australia, MYOB, Merrill Lynch, and J.P. Morgan. His blend of corporate and public sector experience suggests he’ll bring both financial smarts and strategic thinking to the job.

What Happens Next?

For now, Bulent Oz will continue as Acting CEO until Stoermer officially steps in on 16 April 2025. After that, Oz will return to his role as Chief Financial Officer.
