Australia Day warmth, hot mid-week spike, then a cooler, showery weekend
Residents across the Mornington Peninsula and Frankston are heading into a classic Australia Day pattern, warm, mostly sunny and firmly summer-like.
Today’s conditions are sitting around the low 30s, but the week is expected to build into a hotter stretch, including at least one very hot day, before easing toward the weekend.
UV levels are expected to remain high to extreme throughout the week, meaning sun protection will be essential, even on days that feel milder.
If you’re heading to the beach, use extra caution. There has been an influx of lion’s mane jellyfish reported in local waters, along with increased shark sightings. One shark was reported off Somers, and another near Merricks Beach in Western Port. Swimmers are advised to stay alert, follow any local warnings and avoid the water if conditions change.
With hot conditions forecast, residents are reminded never to leave children or pets in vehicles, even briefly, as internal temperatures can rise rapidly to dangerous levels.
A cooler change is expected late in the week, with light showers possible on Saturday and daytime temperatures easing into the high teens and low 20s.
