Infant Death at Family Daycare Centre in Skye

SKYE, VIC – Police are investigating the tragic death of an infant at a family daycare centre in Melbourne’s outer south-east on Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to a property on Balinga Drive, Skye, at approximately 2:05 pm following reports of an incident at the daycare facility.

Multiple police units attended the scene, with at least five police cars spotted in the area. WorkSafe Victoria was also notified and attended the location.

Victoria Police confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious but stated that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.

“Police will prepare a report for the coroner following the death of an infant at a family daycare facility in Skye,”

Victoria Police said in a statement.

Authorities have not released further details about the cause of death or the identity of the child.

According to The Age, WorkSafe Victoria is expected to conduct inquiries to determine whether any workplace or safety compliance issues contributed to the tragedy.
