Detectives from the Mornington Peninsula Crime Investigation Unit are investigating an arson attack in Hastings after a ute was deliberately set on fire last month.
Police say two males arrived at a service station on Frankston-Flinders Road around 4:45 am on 4 February. One of the men slid underneath a parked, unoccupied ute and pierced its fuel tank. He returned moments later and ignited the leaked fuel, causing the vehicle to catch fire.
The offenders fled the scene and were last seen on Frankston-Flinders Road.
Police have released CCTV footage and an image of two males who may be able to assist with their enquiries.
- One of the males was riding a scooter and is described as Caucasian, with a medium build. He was wearing denim shorts, a grey t-shirt, and no shoes.
- The second male is also described as Caucasian, with a thin build. He was wearing black tracksuit pants with paint stains, a blue t-shirt, a black neck scarf, a cap, and black ankle socks. He was also barefoot.
Investigators are urging anyone with CCTV, dashcam footage, or information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
