A 24-year-old man has been charged following a series of alleged assaults and attempted carjackings in Frankston on Thursday morning. The incidents occurred near the intersection of Cranbourne and Lindrum roads around 11 am.
According to Victoria Police, the man allegedly threatened several individuals in a car park before approaching a woman, demanding her car keys, and assaulting her. Passers-by intervened, assisting the woman, who sustained minor injuries. The assailant then fled the scene on foot.
Subsequently, the same individual reportedly entered a nearby shop, assaulted a second woman, and again demanded car keys. This victim also suffered minor injuries. Police located and arrested the suspect nearby shortly after the incidents.
The man has been charged with multiple offences, including three counts of attempted carjacking, two counts of aggravated assault of a female, reckless causing injury, unlawful assault, and resisting arrest. He was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 28 February.
Witnesses described the alarming nature of the events. One bystander recounted hearing a “piercing scream” as the first woman was attacked while vacuuming her car. Another witness noted that the man appeared to be “clearly targeting women” during the spree.
Dramatic footage captured the moment police apprehended the suspect at a bus stop shortly after the alleged assaults. The arrest was conducted without further incident.
