Helping Hands Somerville is appealing to the local community for donations to help stock its volunteer-run pantry, with several essential items currently in high demand.
The pantry, based at the Seniors Hall on Worwong Avenue, was set up by locals to support individuals and families in need. Since opening, it has provided free access to basic groceries in a friendly, judgment-free setting.
According to the group, the following items are especially needed at present:
- Long-life milk (full cream especially, but all varieties including milk alternatives are welcome)
- Sandwich spreads (such as jam, Vegemite, peanut butter)
- Tinned baked beans and spaghetti
- Pasta (all types, including gluten-free)
Donations can be dropped off at the pantry during its regular opening hours:
- Monday: 9.30am – 2.30pm
- Wednesday: 10.30am – 2.30pm
- Friday: 10.30am – 2.30pm
