Frankston Council Launches Subsidies and Rewards to Ease Cost Pressures

Frankston Council has introduced new subsidies and ratepayer rewards worth more than $250,000 to help ease cost-of-living pressures and boost community participation.

Frankston City Council has unveiled two new programs aimed at easing household costs while encouraging locals to stay active and connected.

As part of a $1.7 million support package, the Active Participation Subsidy Program and Ratepayer Rewards Initiative will together provide more than $250,000 in direct benefits for residents and ratepayers.

Breaking Down Barriers to Local Activities

The subsidy program, funded with $137,000, is designed to reduce financial barriers for people wanting to join community clubs or groups. Eligible residents can have up to 85 per cent of their membership fees covered, capped at $500, with the money paid directly to their chosen club.

Applications are open through the SmartyGrants portal and close on 6 May 2026. The scheme will run until June 2026, or until funding is fully allocated.

Ratepayer Rewards Rolled Out With Rates Notices

Alongside the subsidies, Council has committed $117,000 to a new reward scheme delivered with this year’s rates notices. Households can choose between:

  • $30 off a hard waste collection
  • Free entry or a membership upgrade at Peninsula Aquatic Recreation Centre (PARC)
  • A $30 voucher for the Frankston Arts Centre

In addition, 1,400 trees currently being grown by Council will be given away to ratepayers in time for the 2026 autumn planting season.

Focus on Affordability and Inclusion

Deputy Mayor Steffie Conroy said the initiatives were about helping households cope with rising costs while promoting community wellbeing.

“We know cost-of-living pressures are being felt by many in our community. By introducing these initiatives, we’re reducing barriers and creating more opportunities for residents to stay active, connected and involved,” she said.

Conroy added that the rewards were also about ensuring everyone in Frankston could access experiences that make the city “vibrant and welcoming.

How to Get Involved

Details on eligibility and how to apply for subsidies or redeem rewards are available on the Council’s website under the Local Support Package and Community Grants pages.

Both programs will remain open until 30 June 2026, or until funds are exhausted.
