Opponents of Arthurs Seat Eagle Development Consider Protest at Parliament

Opponents of the proposed $25 million Arthurs Seat Eagle development are contemplating a march on Parliament House this week to draw attention to their concerns. The project, categorised as a “project of significance,” has bypassed local council approvals and will go directly to the Victorian Planning Minister for a decision.

The three-stage development, set to commence late next year, includes plans for a function centre, an observation tower, a restaurant, and a luge. While proponents argue it will boost tourism and the local economy, critics fear it will negatively impact the environment and local amenity.

Kylie Greer, spokesperson for the advocacy group Save Our Seat, has urged the public to voice their opposition, emphasising that the decision is not yet finalised.

“I asked the minister’s assistant, is this a fait accompli, like am I just wasting my time? And she said no, she said it’s not. You know, it has to go before the minister, and the only way that we can fight this is through public response.”

Recounted Greer.

The development’s significant scale has sparked debate about its potential effects on the pristine natural environment of Arthurs Seat and its surrounds. Save Our Seat has been mobilising the local community, encouraging residents and supporters to submit objections and participate in the upcoming demonstration.
