Police Arrest 41 in Week-Long Crime Crackdown Across Melbourne’s East and Southeast

Victoria Police have arrested 41 individuals in a seven-day blitz targeting criminal activity across Melbourne’s eastern and southeastern suburbs. The coordinated operation resulted in numerous charges, including theft, aggravated burglary, armed robbery, and drug-related offences.

Key arrests:

  • Dromana Arrest: Aggravated Burglaries and Car Thefts: On 29 December, a 21-year-old Mount Waverley man was apprehended in Dromana. He faces multiple charges relating to aggravated burglaries and car thefts in Portsea and surrounding areas. Charges include eight counts of motor vehicle theft, five counts of aggravated burglary, attempted burglary, and dangerous driving. The accused was remanded and is set to appear in Frankston Magistrates’ Court on 22 January.
  • Frankston Armed Robbery: In the early hours of 30 December, four males aged 15, 19, 20, and 23 were arrested after an alleged armed robbery on the Nepean Highway in Frankston. The group allegedly threatened victims with a machete before stealing cash and a mobile phone.
  • New Year’s Eve Pursuit: A high-speed pursuit involving four boys aged 13 to 17 unfolded on New Year’s Eve. Victoria Police’s Air Wing tracked an Audi wagon from Knoxfield to Eastlink before it was stopped using tyre-deflation devices near Cheltenham Road, Dandenong. Three boys were remanded to appear in a children’s court, while the youngest, aged 13, was bailed.
  • Blairgowrie Armed Robbery: In the early hours of New Year’s Day, six youths aged 12 to 19 were arrested in Blairgowrie following an alleged armed robbery. The group was spotted in an allegedly stolen Mercedes hatchback at a Point Nepean Road service station before fleeing on foot.
  • Chelsea Aggravated Burglary: At 3 am on 2 January, a 17-year-old boy was apprehended by the Dog Squad after an alleged aggravated burglary in Chelsea.
  • Frankston Drug and Theft Charges: Also, on 2 January, a 32-year-old woman from the Frankston area was arrested in a car with allegedly stolen number plates. She faces charges of car theft, handling stolen goods, possessing drugs of dependence, and dealing negligently with proceeds of crime.

Police Message to the Community

Victoria Police emphasised their commitment to tackling crime and maintaining safety across the region. A spokesperson urged the public to report suspicious activity, stating,

“Our proactive operations aim to deter criminal behaviour and hold offenders accountable.”
